DO I HAVE TO PEBBLE DASH? I WANT TO KEEP THE BRICKWORK |
|
Q. I have bought a house with wall tie corrosion and have arranged for a reputable contractor to remedy this. The contractor wants to pebbledash the outside once the work is done, to protect it but I would like to keep the look of the brick and re-point. Is this an option or should I have the walls pebble dashed? If it is an option what sort of mortar should I use? The original is black ash mortar (which I think caused the wall tie corrosion in the first place) and is there an invisible way to protect the finished walls.

WALL TIES CAUSING DAMP PATCHES? |
|
Q. We recently had our wall-ties replaced and whole house repointed. Although we have never previously had a problem with damp, we now have substantial penetrating damp down one external wall. We had to have separate contractors in to do both jobs and each contractor is now saying that it is the 'others' responsibility to remedy the problem.
Broadly speaking we have been happy with the repointing work carried out, and are wondering if there is any chance the damp has been caused by the replacement work on the wall ties. Have you ever come across this situation and if so, what was the cause?
