I HAVE DISCOVERED ROT NOT MENTIONED IN MY SURVEY |
|
Q. Before I bought my house I had to have a survey of the timbers and for rising damp carried out. I have now moved in and discovered a rot in a floor that was not mentioned in the report. What should I do?

A. It would be wrong of us to comment on a specific situation without being in full possession of the facts so we will answer in general terms.
Our first suggestion is that you make contact with a director or manager of the company concerned, ask them to inspect the situation and to tell you what they are prepared to do about it. A good company, if they are wrong, will put their hands up and sort the problem out for you.
If you engage an expert to perform a task for you and they fail in all or part of that duty and as a consequence you suffer a loss, then it is possible that the expert may have been negligent and you may be able to seek compensation from them.
If it becomes necessary we suggest that you take all of the facts to your solicitor and take their advice |
